What is a Tactop Plate Carrier?

With the introduction of the M.A.S.S. (Mobile Arm Recovery System) program in 2021, the US Army has finally gotten around to equipping its soldiers with the latest M.A.S.S. plate carrier and vests and now all they need is a M.A.S.S. plate carrier and vests that are effective against soft armor and have a hard shell vest for armor piercing soft shells.

The M.A.S.S. program was initiated by the United States Army itself in order to replace their old vests and carriers with the better M.A.S.S. plate carriers that are effective against soft armor and offer greater protection from most energy weapons used by the enemy. These carriers were supposed to replace the old hard armor plates used on the M.A.S.S. plates that were so vulnerable against energy weapons such as RPG rounds and other energy penetrators. In fact, some of these old carriers were phased out of service over the years because they were so ineffective against these lethal energy weapons.

However, with the introduction of the M.A.S.S. program, the US Army finally got around to replacing their old plate carriers and vests with the much more effective M.A.S.S. plates and vests which offer much better protection from soft armor penetrating rounds and are also capable of defeating other weapons such as handheld anti-tank weapons and other energy weapons used by the enemy. This is why the M.A.S.S. program was abandoned and the United States Army changed its procurement procedures for M.A.S.S.
